13 more killed in Parachinar sectarian violence Naseer Hussain

PARACHINAR: Sectarian riots took the lives of 13 more persons in Alizai and Chalai areas of Kurram Agency here on Saturday. The fights between two rival groups continuing furiously on six day in Pevaar, Terimangal, Kanj, Maqbal, Jalmai, Balishkhel and Satikot, while in the latest warring 13 more killed and their dead bodies were still laying in the battle field. Sources said that government is not taking any step to stop the clashes between the rivals due to which hundreds of precious lives were waisted in the riots and people future are at stake. From last 44 days curfew was still imposed over the area,due to which the transportation means, Banks and educational institutions were completely closed. Meanwhile, a peace Jirga, comprising prominent Shia and Sunni elders will be proceeding to Kurram Agency on Sunday December 30, 2007 to further the peace process in the Agency. The Jirga is the continuation of an earlier peace Jirga, sent by the Governor NWFP for brokering peace between the conflicting parties in Kurram Agency. The Jirga will negotiate with all the parties in order to achieve complete restoration of peace in the area. The Jirga will find a permanent solution to the problem; find ways and means for complete enforcement of “Amn Teega” (peace deal) and ensure opening of all the roads in the Agency. The Jirga has been tasked to ensure curtailment of the conflict to the Agency and prevent its spread to other areas besides preventing outsiders to interfere in the internal affairs of the Agency. According to a statement issued here from FATA Secretariat on Saturday, the Government is doing all out efforts to restore peace in the area. All the stranded people, the statement added have already been evacuated through helicopters; medicines provided to the health units on emergency basis and security personnel deployed on key points to keep the roads opened for traveling and logistic purposes.

Amir killed in suicide attack laid to rest F.P. Report

PESHAWAR: Former Provincial Education Minister, Asfandyar Amir Zeb has been laid to rest amid touching scenes at his ancestral graveyard at Saidu Sharif Swat on Saturday. The Namiz-e-Janaza was offered at the ground of the residence of Ex Wali-e-Swat. The funeral was largely attended by people belonging to every section of life including Former Foreign Minister, Gohar Ayub Khan, Former State Minister for Finance, Umer Ayub Khan, District Nazim Haripur, Yousuf Ayub, District Nazim Dir, Ahmad Ahsan. The late Asfandayar Amir Zeb was the grandson of the former President Field Marshal Ayub Khan and former Wali-e-Swat. He lost his life in a bomb blast on Friday after addressing an election rally. About seven more people lost their lives in the incident. Strict security measures were taken on the occasion of the funeral and a large contingent of police force was deployed to ward off any untoward situation.
